Suspected human bones discovered in northern Wisconsin

Authorities in northern Wisconsin are looking into reports that a forester discovered suspected human bones.

According to a press release from the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office, a forester marking trees on Friday, May 8, informed authorities that he may have discovered human bones.

Rusk County deputies, DNR authorities, and Wisconsin Department of Justice – Division of Criminal Investigations personnel went to the area and were taken through the woods to recover the probable human remains.

Authorities say they are collaborating with the Rusk County Medical Examiner’s Office and a forensic anthropologist to determine the identify.

Positive identification has yet to be established, but officials say it will be based on medical data.
