A former private school teacher in Indiana pleaded guilty Thursday to child seduction after investigators claimed she had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student, according to court records.
Torrie Lemon, 24, was sentenced to four years in prison, but she avoided significant jail time, according to court papers acquired by Fox News Digital. Records reveal she was sentenced to 40 days in jail or prison, followed by 1,420 days (almost four years) on probation.
Prosecutors said the relationship became public during a 2025 school trip when another student discovered inappropriate text messages on the teen’s cellphone.
Lemon, a former kindergarten teacher at Colonial Christian School, faced charges in Hamilton and Marion counties and admitted to the claims during a police interview.”I was having an inappropriate relationship with a student from our school,” she told officials, FOX 59 said.
According to court documents acquired by FOX 59, the girl told detectives that their relationship began in January 2025, when she and Lemon started spending time together and made sexual jokes before kissing on a school field trip.
Authorities said the relationship was discovered in April during a school trip to South Carolina, when another student observed Lemon and the victim exchanging obscene messages.
Lemon was also allowed to spend the night at the victim’s house, where the two shared a pull-out couch in the basement, according to court documents, the New York Post said. The girl’s father also told authorities that after meeting the teacher, his daughter began questioning Indiana’s age-of-consent regulations.
According to court filings, the girl’s father told investigators that he was aware that his daughter had “kissed, hugged, and cuddled” Lemon, but that he did not report the relationship for fear of harming the teacher’s job.
Lemon also allegedly told police that the victim’s mother believed “there was more to their relationship” than friendship.
According to court filings, the victim informed detectives that they had sex at Lemon’s residence, which was on school premises.
Police also discovered text messages allegedly sent by Lemon to the student, including one that read: “I love you more than words can express.” “I love my girl.”
Lemon was scheduled to be sentenced Friday in Marion County on two other child seduction offenses related to the same investigation.
