4 men apprehended in connection with drive-by shooting in Scottsdale

Authorities said Monday that four men had been apprehended in connection with a drive-by shooting in Scottsdale in April.

The incident occurred on April 12 at a short-term rental house at 81st Street and Pine Drive, according to the Scottsdale Police Department.

These four men are charged with shooting a firearm within city limits, conspiracy, and discharging a firearm at a residence:

  • Gabriel Chiruza Lunyerere, 21
  • Kywan Jones, 24
  • Jamir Smith, 22
  • Michel “Ray” Kasereka, 20

According to officials, no one was hurt despite the fact that the home was hit many times.

According to Chief Joe LeDuc of the Scottsdale Police Department, the shooting is suspected to be reprisal for an armed robbery that occurred in Phoenix earlier that evening.

“Our detectives, analysts, tactical teams, and support personnel did outstanding work in identifying and arresting those responsible for this dangerous shooting,” LeDuc said in the press release.

Investigators identified the individuals as suspects by using surveillance footage, forensic evidence, social media search warrants, and collaboration with partner agencies. While serving various search warrants, they discovered additional guns linked to the case.
