Man apprehended on firearm and drug trafficking charges in Cambridge

Police apprehended an unhoused man on multiple charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm and drug trafficking, in Porter Square on Thursday.

Robert Sullivan, 42, of Boston, was charged after being arrested just after 10 p.m. on May 14.

Patrol police saw Sullivan with a bicycle that had recently been reported stolen.

Officers stopped Sullivan to investigate the bike theft, and the bicycle was proven stolen.

Sullivan was frisked for weapons after telling officers he had a pocketknife.

The frisk found a loaded 9mm handgun.

Sullivan is not licensed to carry a handgun.

A search of Sullivan’s bag following his arrest uncovered considerable quantities of suspected heroin/fentanyl, methamphetamine, crack cocaine, and prescription drugs, much of which was packaged in a way consistent with street level drug sales.
