TikTok Star Arrested In Alleged Murder-For-Hire Plot Targeting Boy-Band Singer: DA

LOS ANGELES, CA — TikTok personality Gabriela Lauren Gonzalez has been charged with allegedly plotting to kill the father of her seven-year-old child, former Why Don’t We singer Jack Avery, by attempting to hire a hitman through the dark web, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office.

Gabriela Lauren Gonzalez, 24, her father Francisco Gonzalez, 59, and her current boyfriend Kai Faron Cordrey, 26, each face one count of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and solicitation of murder after prosecutors said they tried to hire someone to kill Avery.

“This is a case where the defendants are accused of going to great lengths to find someone to commit murder,” Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman said Tuesday. “Most fathers raise their children to respect the law, but here we have a dad who allegedly helped his daughter and her boyfriend break the law in the most sinister way imaginable.”

Authorities said Gabriela Gonzalez was arrested Friday at an airport in Humboldt County. Her father was arrested in Florida and is currently awaiting extradition to Los Angeles, prosecutors said.

According to prosecutors, the alleged murder-for-hire plot stemmed from a years-long custody dispute involving Avery and Gabriela Gonzalez.

Gabriela Gonzalez and Kai Faron Cordrey allegedly searched the dark web between 2020 and 2021 for someone willing to kill Jack Avery during an ongoing custody battle, while Francisco Gonzalez allegedly financed the planned attack, prosecutors said.

According to prosecutors, Cordrey used more than $10,000 provided by Francisco Gonzalez to locate someone he believed would carry out the killing.

However, prosecutors said the supposed hitman was actually an undercover agent.

Believing the undercover officer was legitimate, Cordrey allegedly detailed the entire murder plot, including instructions that Avery needed to be killed within days and that proof of his death was required, prosecutors said.

During another conversation, prosecutors said Cordrey also implicated Gabriela Gonzalez and Francisco Gonzalez in the alleged scheme.

If convicted, all three defendants could face sentences ranging from 25 years to life in prison, prosecutors said.

Gabriela Gonzalez, known for her travel and parenting content on TikTok, has nearly 500,000 followers on the platform. Avery rose to fame around 2016 after posting music on social media.

Avery later became a member of the boy band Why Don’t We before the group split in 2022.
