Indianapolis police apprehended a convicted criminal on various charges following a shooting on the city’s near southwest side Friday.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to the 1300 block of Oliver Avenue after receiving a report of a shooting. Officers arrived and discovered a victim with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds, according to authorities. When the victim was carried to the hospital, he was described as “awake and breathing.”
On Monday, IMPD said officers arrested 56-year-old Jerry Jones for his alleged involvement in the case over the weekend.
Jones, a convicted major violent felon, was carrying a handgun when he was arrested, according to police.
Jones was detained on preliminary counts of gun possession by a major violent felon, battery with a dangerous weapon, and intimidation with a deadly weapon.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charge decision.
According to online court records, Jones had already been convicted of felony violence and criminal recklessness.
