Man sentenced to 13 years in prison in armed robbery at Morris County hotel

A former West New York resident has been sentenced to 13 years in state prison for his role in an armed robbery and assault at a Parsippany-Troy Hills hotel, authorities said.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert M. McNally, and Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Chief Richard Pantina announced that Louis M. Verdesoto, 35, was sentenced on May 29 by Superior Court Judge Robert M. Hanna.

On September 19, 2025, Verdesoto pleaded guilty to first-degree armed robbery and second-degree unauthorized possession of a handgun.

Authorities claimed Verdesoto admitted to committing a theft in Parsippany on May 26, 2024, while using a firearm to injure the victim.

Hanna sentenced Verdesoto to 13 years in New Jersey state prison. The sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act, which requires him to serve 85% of the term before being eligible for parole.

The allegations resulted from an early-morning incident at the Ramada by Wyndham Parsippany, located on Route 46. According to prosecutors, a client claimed being assaulted by an unknown man armed with a firearm, who struck her in the face.

Authorities said the man, later identified as Verdesoto, admitted a second unidentified suspect into the hotel room. The two then duct-taped and zip-tied the victim to a chair, demanding money.

After getting the money, the two perpetrators departed, leaving the victim chained inside the room, according to prosecutors. The victim managed to extricate herself and contact the police.

She was sent to a nearby hospital for treatment of multiple head injuries and facial lacerations.

Investigators later created a timeline of events and named Verdesoto as a suspect. He was arrested on August 6, 2024, in West New York.

A revolver and zip ties were discovered in his vehicle, and clothing matching those shown in surveillance film was discovered at his last known residence, according to authorities.

Verdesoto remained in detention until he was sentenced.
