Two people were apprehended in connection with a shooting involving the Cairo city manager Booker Gainor, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Ja’Zavion Deyounks, 19, and Todd Gibbs, 28, have been charged with aggravated assault.
The allegations come from a gunshot that occurred in June near Aldredge Road and Highway 188 in Grady County.
Cairo City Manager Booker Gainor was driving a UTV and stopped on the side of the road to make a phone conversation when a car approached him, according to GBI.
Gainor reported that several bullets were fired in the direction of the car. He drove away without injuring himself or causing damage to the UTV, GBI reported.
GBI did not release information regarding the investigation that led to these arrests but stated that once the investigation is completed, the case file will be forwarded to the South Georgia Judicial Circuit District Attorney for review and prosecution.
There is no suggestion that the shooting was politically motivated.
According to the GBI, the pair was detained on July 30 and put into Grady County Jail.
