A 32-year-old man who died in Lake Tahoe after an accidental drowning has been identified. He was visiting from out of state.
The man was recognized by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in Nevada as Yadessa Emiru Aga, 32, from Austin, Texas.
Around 8 p.m. on July 28, deputies responded to a water rescue call at the North Sand Harbor boat ramp, according to SFGATE.
Deputies arrived to discover Aga being rescued from the sea and taken to shore by spectators. Despite life-saving operations, he was pronounced dead on the scene.
Aga had swum out to a group of boulders offshore when he slipped under and remained unconscious, according to investigators.
Although the facts of the unfortunate tragedy are still being probed, police have stated that the case is being treated as an unintentional drowning.
Aga, an Amazon software engineer from Texas, was visiting close friends in Lake Tahoe after returning from a church conference.
According to a GoFundMe site set up to assist Aga’s family with funeral expenses, loved ones praised Aga as a “beloved brother, son, and friend.”
“To know Yadessa was to know genuine kindness, warmth, and joy,” the GoFundMe page stated. “His humble demeanor, contagious grin, and generous heart made everyone feel loved and accepted. He was dearly loved by his family, friends, church, and everyone who had the honor of knowing him.”
