A shooting on a public transit bus in Pinellas Park sent one person to the hospital Sunday morning and resulted in the swift arrest of a suspect nearby.
Officers from the Pinellas Park Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of US Highway 19 North and 49th Street North around 11:45 a.m., following reports of a gunshot victim on a Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) bus. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a single person with a gunshot wound.
The suspect fled the scene on foot right after the shooting. Officers investigating the local area found the suspect shortly after near Freedom Lake Park, which is located at 9990 49th Street North. Police arrested the suspect without incident.
Emergency services took the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials from the department acknowledged that the investigation is still ongoing, but there is no current threat to public safety. Authorities intend to share additional information as the investigation continues.
