A 30-year-old man is facing many criminal counts after allegedly shooting at Mississippi officers during a high-speed chase on Saturday, August 1.
Greenville police attempted to stop a white Nissan Murano allegedly driven recklessly by Antonio Zavala. According to officials, Zavala refused to pull over, taking police through Greenville and into Washington County at speeds surpassing 100 mph and running many red lights.
During the pursuit, Zavala allegedly fired several bullets at law officers and attempted to ram a patrol car belonging to the Washington County Sheriff.
Officers nabbed Zavala along Mississippi Highway 1 and Wilcox Road. A search turned up two large knives and a shotgun shell on his person, but officials suspect the firearm used in the chase was discarded earlier.
Zavala is facing two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, felony escape, careless driving, and traffic infractions, with further accusations pending.
