Deputies with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office arrested three people in separate drunk driving incidents, one of which involved a rollover at a railroad crossing.
The crash happened near the 6100 block of North Dixie Highway. Witnesses say a vehicle driven by 35-year-old Devin Rene Mitchell drove across Dixie Highway, took off, rolled over, and landed directly on the railroad rails.
The impact caused considerable damage to the crossing structure. Deputies gave Mitchell a field sobriety test, which he failed, leading to his arrest for driving under the influence.
In a separate case, deputies reacted to public allegations of reckless driving on local roads. Officers spotted the vehicle and arrested 51-year-old Maria Parez-Nolasco-De Ramirez for DUI. During the investigation, officials discovered that Parez-Nolasco-De Ramirez did not have a valid driver’s license and had never obtained one.
A third arrest took place on Kanner Highway, where deputies stopped 26-year-old Erick Mejia-Olguin. Mejia-Olguin was brought into jail for DUI after officers reported that he exhibited indicators of physical impairment.
There were no major injuries or fatalities reported in any of the three instances.
Following the arrests, representatives from the agency noted that deputies, along with members of the Aggressive Driving Unit, will maintain active patrols across the county day and night to monitor for impaired and dangerous driving behavior.
