A New York man wanted on felony domestic abuse charges was apprehended in Montgomery County last month after a weeks-long, multi-state investigation, according to a press release issued by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office in Carmel, NY earlier this week.
Selvin Martinez Quim, 34, of Southeast, New York, was arrested in Maryland on July 16 with the aid of the Montgomery County Police Department, Maryland Coordination and Analysis Center (MCAC), and United States Marshals Service.
The investigation began early on June 14, when deputies responded to a claim of domestic violence in the Town of Southeast. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies found the victim at a nearby gas station after she fled the house with evident injuries.
When deputies went to arrest Martinez Quim at his home, he allegedly jumped out a window and escaped into the woods. An intensive search was initiated, but authorities stated he managed to elude capture.
The matter was then turned over to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigations. Investigators eventually gathered evidence indicating that Martinez Quim had fled to Maryland.
Working with MCPD, MCAC, and the U.S. Marshals Service, investigators traced Martinez Quim down to Maryland, where he was apprehended on July 16. On July 30, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office officers traveled to Maryland, apprehended Martinez Quim, and returned him to Putnam County.
Martinez Quim faces charges of second-degree strangling, a Class D felony; criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, a Class A misdemeanor; and third-degree assault, a Class A misdemeanor. He was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court, where bail was set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond. The victim also received a full stay-away order of protection.
Putnam County Sheriff Brian Hess praised MCPD, MCAC, and the United States Marshals Service for their support with the investigation. There was no additional information supplied on where the suspect was arrested in Montgomery County. A mugshot of the suspect was also not included in the news statement.
