Choctaw police responded to a burglary allegation on Monday and discovered over $20,000 in stolen merchandise from an Oklahoma City home.
Taylor Benningfield was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center in connection with the crime.
Officers arrived at the reported burglary around 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 10, and discovered that the suspects had cut through metal siding to enter both a dwelling and a detached metal business.
Investigators analyzed CCTV footage from nearby residences to determine a vehicle description and partial license plate number. Then, using the Choctaw Police Department’s Flock camera system, investigators tracked down the matching car that left the area around the time of the break-in.
The inquiry led authorities to a home in the 1700 block of NE 20th Street in Oklahoma City, where they executed a search warrant.
During the search, authorities discovered the stolen utility trailer and approximately $8,000 in stolen hand and power tools. They also discovered the stolen weapons safe, which included 13 hunting rifles, a semi-automatic handgun, personal jewelry, and several boxes of ammunition.
Three people were detained by police during the operation.
Following interviews, authorities arrested Benningfield and placed him into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on charges of second-degree burglary, possession or concealment of stolen items, and possession of a firearm following a previous felony conviction.
Police indicated that additional charges against the other two people will be filed with the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office for examination.
