The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that 33 of the 56 bodies taken from a shuttered Far South Side funeral home have been identified, and a group of attorneys would provide legal assistance to impacted families.
The medical examiner’s office announced on Friday afternoon that 25 families had been contacted of the 33 identified bodies removed from South Chicago Chapel at 95th and Exchange last week. Officials revealed their names on Friday afternoon, omitting individuals whose next of kin had not yet been notified. The list of names appears at the bottom of this article.
Meanwhile, a group of human rights attorneys will attend a community meeting on Friday evening regarding the investigations into South Chicago Chapel and Bohemian National Cemetery.
Families affected by the investigations are asked to meet with attorneys from Hale Law at Genesis Ministry, 11153 S. Hoyne Ave., Chicago, between 3 and 7 p.m. The lawyers will listen to their concerns, answer questions, and discuss potential legal strategies.
Families are advised to bring any funeral-related documentation, contracts, invoices, correspondence, and urns with them if feasible so that attorneys can provide the best guidance.
The 56 bodies and more than 50 cartons of cremated remains were removed from South Chicago Chapel last week, and the funeral home’s license was promptly terminated after state officials and Chicago police were notified. The house is linked to Johanna Morgan and her husband Clark Morgan, who already lost his license after the state shut down Heights Crematory in Chicago Heights last year due to similar misbehavior discovered by CBS News Chicago Investigators.
