Child abducted from Sabine County located in Louisiana; Pineland man arrested

A missing Sabine County child was located in Louisiana following a multi-agency response.

According to the Sabine County Sheriff’s Office, the toddler was reported missing early Sunday morning.

The child was safely discovered in Louisiana, near the Mississippi state line.

Sabine County Sheriff George Griffith also acquired a warrant for the suspect, Roger Smith Jr., age 60, of Pineland.

According to the SCSO, Flock and Vigilant license plate reader cameras helped law enforcement identify and follow the suspect’s vehicle.

The SCSO stated that officers halted the vehicle, apprehended Smith, and recovered the child.

The sheriff’s office stated that the youngster is in the process of being reunited with her parents.

The Sabine County Sheriff’s Office, the Louisiana State Police, and federal and state law enforcement authorities also assisted in the response.
