Man apprehended on fraud charges in Brighton

A traffic stop for running a red light led in the arrest of a man who was caught with over 100 fake debit cards on Tuesday afternoon.

On August 18, at around 12:15 p.m., officers from District D-14 performed a traffic stop near Harvard Avenue and Brainerd Road.

Officers observed a vehicle drive past the intersection of Harvard Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue without stopping at the red light.

Officers approached the vehicle and identified the operator as the person they were looking for in connection with an ongoing ATM card fraud case.

The operator gave an Italian driver’s license and a bank card bearing the same name.

Officers discovered a significant stack of US money gathered together in the center console, as well as multiple credit and debit cards in the cup holders.

The operator, who did not have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the United States, was removed from the car and detained.

Following an investigation by District D-14 detectives, officers discovered 124 fake ATM and debit cards, as well as an unreported amount of US dollars.

The suspect’s two pieces of identification were found to be fake.

Nicusor Lazar, 27, has been arrested and is scheduled to appear in Brighton District Court on allegations of money laundering, two counts of uttering, identity fraud, forgery of an RMV certificate, and providing a fraudulent ID to law authorities.
