Rock Island man sentenced to prison on fentanyl charge

A Rock Island man was sentenced to five years in federal prison on Tuesday for possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa, 32-year-old Davaria Shargquil Lewis Sr. possessed 879 counterfeit oxycodone M30 pills containing fentanyl.

They stated that authorities discovered the drugs in Lewis’ vehicle during a traffic stop in March 2025.

Lewis will be sentenced to a five-year supervised release period following his conviction.
