A 24-year-old man was detained on six counts of attempted murder following a shooting in Lakeland, according to police.
On August 14, shortly after 11 p.m., officers from the Lakeland Police Department were dispatched to a residence in Lakeland’s Westgate neighborhood in response to allegations of a shooting. Someone reportedly fired into a side bedroom window, striking two of the six individuals inside.
Police said three of the victims were little children who were unharmed. The two adult victims were transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
One of the victims named Traveon Raggs, 24, as a potential suspect after he allegedly made threats recently. An investigation found security video of Raggs arriving and departing the site in a car, which was sufficient evidence for detectives to get an arrest warrant.
Raggs was detained on August 24 at a Winter Haven home. He is facing six counts of attempted murder, among other charges:
- Attempted first-degree murder (six counts)
- Shooting into an occupied building
- Discharging a firearm in a residential area
- Aggravated stalking after a court-imposed order
- Written threats to kill or injure
- Violation of pretrial release conditions
- Unlawful use of a two-way communication device
- Armed trespassing
- Child abuse without great bodily harm
Raggs is being incarcerated in South County Jail.
