At least 19 people were apprehended on Saturday after Boston’s 53rd annual Caribbean Festival and Parade, according to the Boston Police Department.
According to authorities, at least 12 of the 19 arrests involved firearms.
“Those are not final numbers,” Boston police stated. “All reports have not been completed.”
The parade started early Saturday morning. According to Boston police, safety is always a primary priority, but it is especially important in light of recent gun violence.
Late-night gatherings following the festival are typically a source of worry, according to Police Commissioner Michael Cox.
“We tend to see the most violence associated with late-night parties and loud parties in general,” Cox stated at a press conference earlier this week. “We will be addressing large parties and certainly late-night activities.”
