A weekend street racing crackdown across Portland resulted in seven arrests, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
Police said illegal street racing activity was happening on main highways through Portland on Saturday. Officers saw groups racing at high speeds, as well as blocking roadways and performing slowdown maneuvers to create space for racing.
On Sunday, authorities stopped several people for speeding over 100 mph, driving under the influence, unlawful street racing, and other reckless driving behavior.
Police discovered a pound and a half of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and other drugs in a stopped car near I-205 and Southeast Stark Street.
Overall, authorities reported that the crackdown resulted in:
- About 50 to 60 traffic stops
- One vehicle seized for street racing and eluding police. The driver was arrested and a firearm was seized.
- Numerous citations were issued; four drivers cited for more than 100 miles per hour
- 12 vehicles were towed
- Eight vehicles eluded police
- Seven drivers were arrested
- Two firearms were recovered
- Two groups related to street racing were disrupted
The names of those arrested have not been revealed by authorities.
