A Vancouver driver who allegedly plowed into a stopped Portland police car was detained and charged with DUII on Monday, according to officials.
Around 6:40 p.m. Monday, an officer noticed Avtar Singh, 56, slumped down inside a Jeep stopped in the middle of North Princeton Street, according to a Portland police press release.
The officer, who was traveling west on North Princeton Street, pulled over to investigate, at which point Singh accelerated and collided with the police car at around 10 mph, according to the news release.
Singh was arrested after taking field sobriety tests on charges of driving while intoxicated and dangerous driving, according to police. He was booked in the Multnomah County Detention Center.
According to police, the officer experienced slight back pain following the incident. Officials stated neither Singh nor his companion were seriously injured.
