12 people have been charged after an investigation into straw purchases and other illegal transfers and possession of firearms in Pennsylvania.
Attorney General Dave Sunday and other law enforcement partners across Pennsylvania announced charges against the following 12 people for alleged illicit transfers of guns:
- Robert Crowely, 21
- Kyree McCray, 19
- Makai Kenny, 24
- Davar Reid, 22
- Sharon Gore, 42, (Reid’s mother-in-law)
- Carley Chedwick, 25
- Aaron B. Ridgely, 28
- Shelly Bonacci, 39
- Shawn M. Mason, 32
- Joni Atkinson, 32
- Lavandra Carpenter, 29
- Ethan Drolz, 23
Kyree McCray is among those charged, according to authorities, with both gun violations and possession of child sexual abuse material.
Robert Crowley, a close acquaintance of McCray’s, has also been charged with felony carrying a firearm without a license and related crimes for illegally transferring another firearm, authorities said. When the two were apprehended, multiple firearms, magazines, ammo, and accessories were confiscated.
Makai Kenny is accused of illegally transferring at least six firearms he purchased, which police discovered at crime scenes or in the custody of others, according to the release.
McCray, Kenny, and Crowley were denied bail during recent arraignments due to being deemed a “danger to the community.” These defendants were all involved in straw purchase or other illicit transfers of weapons. “Guns obtained in this manner frequently end up at violent crime scenes and in the hands of people who are prohibited from lawful possession,” Attorney General Sunday stated.
Detectives said attempts are still underway to trace and retrieve all of the firearms, and further charges may be brought.
