Homeless man detained after being discovered hiding in restaurant in The Villages

A homeless man was detained after being discovered hiding in a restaurant in The Villages.

A manager at Ruby Tuesday in Spanish Springs discovered 23-year-old Dominic Cooks hiding in a fire riser room around 9 a.m. Sunday after noticing the door was slightly ajar, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

The manager ordered Cooks to collect his items and leave the premises. However, the New York native “muttered indiscernibly and shut the door, which was locked with a keypad.” When it became evident that Cooks had no intention of leaving, the manager contacted the police.

Officers arrived on the scene and ordered Cooks to come out. When he didn’t follow their instructions, a police officer used a pocketknife to pry open the door. Cooks was taken from the room and handcuffed.

He was arrested on a trespassing charge and booked into the Lake County Jail on a $500 bond.
