A former Florida City police officer faces various criminal counts after allegedly traveling throughout the state and threatening to shoot at local officials, officers, and the police department headquarters.
Florida City police arrested 54-year-old Rocquel McCray at a neighborhood restaurant at 1:58 a.m. on September 11, 2026, following a quick investigation into online and phone threats.
According to authorities, the incident began when residents reported threats that McCray reportedly made on social media. Detectives investigating McCray’s travels revealed that she flew from Jacksonville to Miami International Airport on September 10 before taking a private car to Florida City.
Once in the area, McCray called the Florida City Police Department and told a dispatcher that she intended to fire at the station. Officers swiftly pinpointed her position to a nearby restaurant. McCray resisted cops’ attempts to detain her.
McCray previously served as a sworn law enforcement officer for the Florida City Police Department until her employment ended in 2019.
Following the arrest, the department released a statement regarding the incident: “Threats against any individual, including city officials and law enforcement personnel, are treated seriously. Anyone who engages in such conduct will be investigated and held accountable under the law. The Florida City Police Department continues to prioritize community safety.
McCray remains in detention on multiple felony charges.
