80-year-old Phoenix man discovered dead 3 months after going missing

An 80-year-old Phoenix man who went missing more than three months ago has died, authorities said Tuesday.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Stanley Avelos’ discovered dead.

Avelos, who has dementia, was the subject of a SAFE Alert issued on June 10.

He was last spotted driving eastbound on Olive Avenue near 47th Avenue just before 9:15 a.m. He had left his residence on Carefree Highway and Seventh Avenue two hours before to buy cigarets, according to officials.

No information about the cause of his death was made accessible.

SAFE Alerts have replaced Silver Alerts in Arizona as a means of informing the public about missing people aged 65 and up, as well as missing people with dementia or developmental/cognitive problems.
