A Louisiana couple faces imprisonment following accusations that they physically harmed and threatened children over an extended period. One defendant stands accused of pressing a firearm against a victim’s head and issuing a death threat.
Daniel Daigle, 38, and Sariee Daigle, 36, were each booked into the Beauregard Parish Jail in DeRidder on a charge of cruelty to juveniles, according to jail records.
Sariee Daigle additionally faces a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm, local NBC and The CW affiliate KPLC reported.
Incident reports from the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office indicate that two victims reported the defendants choked, kicked, punched, and struck them with objects. The victims stated they endured abuse on a weekly basis and that Daniel and Sariee Daigle fabricated explanations for the children’s bruises.
The nature of the relationship between the suspects and victims remains unclear.
One victim reported that Sariee Daigle threatened to kill her and herself while pressing a gun to her head on the child’s birthday, authorities stated. The girl described the incident as “the worst thing that ever happened to her,” and further alleged that the woman once placed a knife to her throat and pinned her against a wall by her neck.
The children disclosed the abuse to someone years prior and entered the care of a family friend, authorities report. Following an investigation by the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services, authorities arrested the couple.
The defendants characterized those arrests as a misunderstanding, and the alleged abuse persisted.
In July, authorities intervened again after one of the children disclosed at church that Daniel Daigle had threatened to rip out her earrings, according to KPLC. Deputies proceeded to the couple’s residence and arrested Sariee Daigle. Daniel Daigle subsequently turned himself in.
