Body of Preston County man missing after boat mishap discovered in Ohio

The body of a Preston County man who went missing on Lake Erie in August has been discovered.

Rodney Nieman, 73, of Bruceton Mills, was lost after his boat capsized on Lake Erie near Conneaut, Ohio, on August 12. While Nieman’s wife and a friend were rescued, the hunt for Nieman lasted weeks with no results.

The US Coast Guard searched nine nautical square miles of the lake for Nieman. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources also assisted.

The Ashtabula County Coroner’s Office confirmed to a Cleveland television station that Nieman’s body was found on Walnut Beach in Ashtabula on September 28. Ashtabula is around 15 miles from Conneaut.

It’s unknown why the boat capsized.
