Madison police arrested two teenagers on Wednesday in connection with a collision that killed a construction worker at La Follette High School last week.
Peter Crook, 65, of Lone Rock, was doing road maintenance on Pflaum Road near Alder Road around 1:10 p.m. on Sept. 24 when he was hit by a car. He died at the scene.
According to police, the 17-year-old driver of the vehicle that struck Crook was detained on Wednesday and faces charges of second-degree reckless homicide and hit-and-run involving death.
According to authorities, the collision occurred when the youngster and another 17-year-old motorist were racing. Witnesses believed that the automobiles were traveling at 50-60 mph before the incident.
The other driver is facing felony charges of second-degree recklessly endangering safety. According to police, he was driving in the opposite lane of traffic on Pflaum Road at the time of the incident.
Both teenagers are set to appear in court in November.
