An elderly suspect was apprehended for a string of retail thefts in Central Florida.
Detectives from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office apprehended an older Lakeland man suspected of a spree of retail thefts over several months.
According to law officials, the defendant was charged with retail theft at two Polk County Walmart shops on 11 different dates over the course of many months. The total worth of his thefts is approximately $1,000, although the Sheriff’s Office is still investigating.
According to local law police, 74-year-old Saad Abouelala was wanted for many retail thefts and defrauding to obtain property.
Last month, a PCSO officer noticed Saad driving a silver 2016 Kia Sorrento down Fitzgerald Road in Lakeland. Rather than making a traffic stop and risking a vehicle pursuit, the deputy waited and radioed for backup.
Once backup came, local law officers conducted a traffic stop on Francis Pipkin Road and Emerald Cove Loop. The vehicle was blocked in, and he was apprehended without incident and put into the Sheriff’s Processing Center for his warrant.
