Mom Charged With Capital Murder After Allegedly Shooting 2 Sons to Death Overnight

A Texas woman was arrested after allegedly shooting and killing her two sons at their family home during the early morning hours.

The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a news release that Colleen Nichole Lemmon faces two counts of capital murder in connection with the deaths of her 21-year-old son, Christopher Scott Pitre, and her 15-year-old son, whose name authorities have not released.

Deputies began investigating the shootings at about 4:15 a.m. Thursday, October 1, after receiving a report of “an unknown emergency” at the family’s home in Waxahachie, Texas, the sheriff’s office said.

When deputies reached the residence, they discovered both victims with multiple gunshot wounds.

The younger boy was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, while authorities pronounced Pitre dead at the scene. His younger brother later died from his injuries at the hospital.

Lemmon, 42, remained at the home when deputies arrived. According to the sheriff’s office, she had non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment before authorities booked her on preliminary charges.

Detectives continued investigating the shooting and determined they had probable cause to believe Lemmon was responsible for shooting both victims, citing “corroborating evidence.”

Authorities have not disclosed what happened before the shooting or whether Lemmon had a motive for allegedly killing her sons.

The sheriff’s office said the victims’ father was also notified about their deaths following the incident.

“My deepest sympathies go out to the victims’ father, family members, and loved ones involved in this tragic incident,” Ellis County Sheriff Brad Norman said in a statement about the incident. “They will remain in our prayers during this difficult time.”

Lemmon remains held at the Ellis County Jail, with her bond expected to be determined at her upcoming arraignment hearing.

It remains unclear whether Lemmon has entered a plea or obtained an attorney after her arrest. The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Us’ request for comment seeking additional information about the case.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Under Texas law, a capital murder conviction could result in the death penalty or life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
