Man taken into custody on drug trafficking charges in Tewksbury

The Tewksbury, Billerica, and Methuen Police Departments say that a Methuen man was taken into custody on drug trafficking charges after a combined investigation with the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office.

Jose Jorge Villar, 51, of Methuen, was arrested Thursday on charges of trafficking in 36 grams or more of fentanyl, 18 grams or more of fentanyl, and 18 grams or more of cocaine.

Villar was also detained on a Lowell District Court warrant related to the investigation, which charged him with three counts of trafficking in more than 10 grams of fentanyl.

The arrest stemmed from a collaborative narcotics investigation into Villar’s suspected drug distribution in the Merrimack Valley, which began in September.

Villar was detained Thursday morning at a hotel on Andover Street in Tewksbury.

During the operation, police seized roughly 101.8 grams of suspected fentanyl, 24.4 grams of suspected crack cocaine, and nearly $18,973 in cash after searching Villar’s vehicle and Methuen home.

Villar’s vehicle was also taken.

Villar was arraigned Friday in Lowell District Court.
