Suspect hits officer with car during chase and arrested in Cumberland

A man led Cumberland police on a chase Thursday evening before hitting an officer with his car and battling authorities on the scene, according to police.

The Cumberland Metropolitan Police Department stated the incident began between 100N and Buck Creek Road in Cumberland, where authorities received a report of a careless motorist. When an officer saw the vehicle on Washington Street and Buck Creek Road, it was missing its front passenger tire, riding on the rim, with the rear door open and moving erratically.

Police stated the driver refused to stop and drove away.

Officers pursued the vehicle into Marion County, Cumberland, where the driver eventually spun out. However, as cops attempted to take him from the car, he pushed the throttle again, injuring one of the officers.
