A Wisconsin teenager, drunk at the wheel, crashed into another driver and caused a fatality, then entered a plea in court.

Nineteen‑year‑old Carter Green pleaded no contest to homicide while intoxicated and to causing injury while operating a vehicle under the influence. He entered the plea on Monday, just over a year after the October 4, 2025 collision that killed 27‑year‑old Casey Sjoberg. According to a criminal complaint, Green was driving his Chevy Malibu that night when he ran a red light at roughly 130‑145 mph and slammed into Sjoberg’s Dodge Neon.

After officers arrived and smelled “the odor of intoxicants,” they asked Green if he had been drinking. He answered, “Absolutely not.” Field‑sobriety tests told a different story, and a breath test later showed his blood‑alcohol content at 0.178,more than twice Wisconsin’s legal limit of 0.08 for drivers over 21. Drivers under 21 are not permitted to have any alcohol in their system.

Police observed that Green appeared “clearly intoxicated” at the crash site and “seemed to have no remorse or concern for the other people involved in the crash.” A friend who had been asleep in the passenger seat told officers the pair had attended a bonfire at a friend’s house before heading to a strip club, where the friend saw Green drink several beers.

Two days after the crash, the passenger arrived at the Appleton Police Department and told a sergeant that Green had woken him after the collision with Sjoberg’s car. The friend recalled Green repeatedly saying, “I’m screwed, I’m screwed, I’m screwed.” He also noted that Green’s speedometer read 130 mph and believed Green was “hauling.” The complaint adds that Green had installed a new turbo in the car the day before the crash.

Sjoberg was pronounced dead at the scene, while his passenger received hospital treatment for injuries sustained in the impact.

Green’s sentencing is set for December 22.
