A Greenwood mother was arrested Tuesday after her 5-year-old child was seen walking near a creek while wearing just a diaper.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, officers and firemen were summoned to the Winterbrook mobile home development, off West County Line Road, shortly before 4 p.m. on a report of a child discovered near a creek.
A deputy discovered a 5-year-old child roaming through undergrowth near the creek, wearing just a diaper. First responders inspected and treated the child, while officials spent more than an hour knocking on doors and speaking with people to locate the infant’s parents.
Officers also made numerous statements over their vehicles’ public address systems and sounded their sirens to attract attention.
At 5:06 p.m., one serjeant returned to a home where officials had previously knocked. After many minutes, the child’s mother, Amber Allee, 29, answered the door and informed officers that she had a little child.
