The Las Vegas club promoter who struck a UK family just east of the Las Vegas Strip, seriously injuring a woman and a two-year-old toddler, was sentenced to at least 8 years in prison Thursday morning in an intense, emotional hearing at the Clark County District Court.
Gavin Caci, 28, pled guilty in August to DUI, dangerous driving, and refusal to stop at the scene of an accident.
Caci, who had a blood-alcohol level of 0.22 less than two hours after the incident, told a Metro police officer that he had been drinking tequila at a nightclub but couldn’t recall which one, according to papers.
The crash happened on Sunday, February 8, about 7:35 p.m., near Harmon Avenue and Audrie Lane, just east of the Las Vegas Strip. According to police, Caci drove up on a sidewalk in a 2026 Tesla Model Y, collided with a car, then returned to the sidewalk and collided with three pedestrians.
The pedestrians were a British family with a two-year-old toddler. The family was waiting at the intersection for the traffic signal to change before proceeding.
Prosecutors stated the child was ejected from his stroller and hit with a pole. The mother and kid were both hospitalized with serious injuries.
Police said Caci fled the scene, but a witness tracked him down to a parking lot on Koval Lane, east of the crash site.
He initially pled not guilty in March, then altered his plea months later.
“There has to be accountability and justice,” Judge Tara Clark Newberry stated Thursday. “There are so many things you could have done.” Newberry was discussing calling a ride-share, a cab, or a buddy for a ride.
Approximately 30 of Caci’s friends and family members attended court on Thursday, filling almost every seat.
Caci, who had already served 19 days in jail at the Clark County Detention Center, also spoke at the sentencing.
“I understand that nothing excuses my actions,” Caci replied. “Whatever the sentence the court imposes, I will accept responsibility.”
Caci noted that after the crash, he has joined and attended AA on a regular basis, as well as strengthened his religious convictions.
His defense attorney requested that the punishment be two to five years for each victim, to run concurrently. She chastised the prosecutor for requesting far more time than Duane Davis received this week for first-degree murder.
“This is the gravity of a bad decision, not the malice of a bad person,” defense counsel Paola Armeni explained.
On the other hand, the prosecution requested 32 to 80 years. They played a video from Caci’s Tesla of him leaping off the curb and running down the family, addressing his long-term medical concerns with his wife and little kid.
One of the victims, Luke Sadler, made a statement in court on behalf of his wife, explaining how she awoke in the hospital to the sound of her daughter screaming. Both the wife and daughter were sent to intensive care.
“I can still remember very vividly seeing just how far down the road my daughter had been thrown,” Sadler said of what he saw that night.
Caci was charged with eight felonies, including two counts of driving under the influence resulting in substantial bodily harm, two counts of DUI leading to death or severe bodily harm, and four counts of failing to halt at the site of a fatal or personal injury crash.
The judge divided the penalty into two categories: DUI causing significant bodily harm and abandoning the scene of an accident. Caci received a sentence ranging from eight to twenty years. In addition, he will have to pay a $16,000 fine, which is $2,000 for each offense.
He had previously been ordered to forfeit his passport, but the court ruled that he did not constitute a flight danger based on his past court appearances.
According to data uncovered by 8 News Now investigators, a police officer cited Caci in December 2025 for exceeding the speed limit by more than 25 miles per hour. The officer “visually estimated” that Caci was going 70 mph in a 45-mph zone. The officer’s radar detected Caci at 69 mph.
Caci was also ticketed in 2023 for causing a crash and again in 2024 for speeding, according to documents.
During Thursday’s sentencing, it was revealed that Caci was arrested for DUI in 2019.
The UK family has sued Caci and Tesla Lease Trust. The lawsuit alleges that the trust “should have known” that Caci “was likely to operate the vehicle in an unsafe or reckless manner. “That matter was most recently heard in District Judge Jasmine Lilly-Spells’ courtroom in October. 8.
