A Venezuelan migrant who attacked a coworker with a running concrete saw on a Chicago construction site has been sentenced to six years in prison, according to court records.
Agustin Gomes Granadillo, 27, pled guilty to attempted murder in the June 23 attack on a 30-year-old coworker on a job site in the 1200 block of South Kedvale Avenue.
Judge Nicholas Kantas imposed the sentence.
Prosecutors said the incident began with a verbal quarrel and escalated when Gomes threw a shovel at the victim and punched him in the stomach with a concrete block. He then took a Stihl masonry saw and swung it at him twice, injuring his right wrist and chest, police say. Prosecutors stated the victim suffered a shattered, extensively lacerated wrist and a serious chest wound.
Gomes will be given credit for the 294 days he spent in Cook County Jail before making his guilty plea. He must serve 85% of his six-year sentence, with a predicted parole date of November 27, 2030.
