A North Texas woman will serve decades in prison for her role in operating unlicensed group homes, which resulted in over a dozen deaths.
Regla Becquer sentenced
Regla Becquer, who ran unauthorized group homes in North Texas, was sentenced to 28 years in prison and two years in state detention this week.
Becquer pled guilty to criminally negligent homicide, abandoning or endangering someone, and financial elder abuse.
Becquer was arrested in 2024 after a woman complained about abusive conditions at a group home he ran under the name Loving and Caring for People, LLC.
The organization ran five group homes that cared for persons with physical and mental problems in Arlington, Mansfield, and Grand Prairie.
Police say at least 13 people died in those homes between September 2022 and March 2024, when Becquer was captured.
One of the residences Becquer utilized as an unauthorized group home came into her ownership in suspicious circumstances. The former owner left the house to Becquer in a one-sentence will just days before her death.
Becquer’s case prompted reforms in Texas state law governing the management and oversight of group homes.
