Man sentenced to prison for running over woman multiple times with truck, staging it as an accident

A man was found guilty of running over a woman in Covington in 2023 and claiming it was an accident.

Gary Beam was found guilty of assault, tampering with evidence, and tampering with a witness after a jury deliberation of just over an hour, according to Kenton County Commonwealth Attorney Rob Sanders.

Angela Wagner was brought to a hospital on December 20, 2023. Wagner’s significant other, Beam, informed EMTs that she was injured after falling out of his pickup while parked at a Gold Star Chili. Doctors did not feel the injuries were the same as Wagner’s.

An officer checked Gold Star’s CCTV footage. It showed Wagner tumbling out of the truck as it accelerated and ran her over. The truck then backed over Wagner twice, as shown on camera. Beam was seen stepping out, returning his truck to a parking spot, and arranging the scene before phoning 911.

Wagner died of a cancer-related disease while Beam awaited trial. Despite not dying from her injuries, she required 24-hour care for the final four months of her life.

“What happened to Angela Wagner was unforgiveable,” stated Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Ryan Oliver. “The agony she felt was terrible. We are grateful that the jury recognized this and ensured justice was delivered.

The judge condemned Beam to 22.5 years in jail.
