A man was apprehended in Ventura County for a violent assault that resulted from an alleged road rage incident.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Edwin Noe Mejia, 44, of Bakersfield.
On September 10, deputies from the Moorpark station responded to a call at the 800 block of Magnolia Street in Moorpark shortly before 5 p.m. According to preliminary investigations, Mejia followed the victim home following an apparent road rage incident.
Mejia allegedly got out of his car and assaulted the victim, repeatedly punching him in the face and attempting to stab him with a knife.
According to officials, Mejia returned to his automobile and drove toward the victim, hitting both the victim and his vehicle.
The culprit fled the site of the heated encounter. The victim gave investigators a description of the man and his car.
“Detectives utilized ALPR (Automated License Plate Reader) technology to identify the suspect’s vehicle and associated vehicle license plate,” the sheriff’s office reported. “With this information, detectives were able to identify Edwin Noe Mejia as the individual responsible for the attack.”
On October 9, investigators tracked down Mejia and arrested him for assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism over $400, criminal threats, and brandishing.
“The Moorpark Police would like to thank the citizens and businesses throughout Moorpark for their assistance,” officials stated in a statement. “With the collaboration and trust from the public, crimes continue to be solved, allowing the judicial system to hold those responsible accountable for crimes committed.”
