Chicago man sentenced to over 21 years in prison for methamphetamine offense

A 54-year-old Chicago man has been sentenced to over 21 years in federal prison after investigators discovered over 16 pounds of methamphetamine in the car he was driving and his Cedar Rapids apartment.

Demetrius Stone received a 259-month sentence after pleading guilty in May to drug possession with the intent to distribute. In addition, he must spend five years of supervised release following his prison sentence.

Officers attempted to pull Stone over on January 7, according to evidence given at his sentencing hearing. According to the evidence, he drove through a Cedar Rapids neighborhood at more than twice the speed limit of 25 mph, ran a stop sign, and nearly hit a city bus. He attempted to flee when his automobile came to a halt after colliding with a curb. Officers apprehended him nearby.

Officers discovered more than 11 pounds of methamphetamine in and around the automobile. Later that nite, a search of Stone’s Cedar Rapids apartment turned up 5 1/2 pounds of methamphetamine, 8 ounces of cocaine, a loaded gun, and $59,000 in cash.
