A Miami woman was taken into custody after a pedestrian died early Saturday in a hit-and-run crash, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies were dispatched shortly after 1:30 a.m. to investigate a suspected hit-and-run with an injured victim in Dania Beach, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Authorities could not identify the man they found lying in the road near the 200 block of Sheridan Street. He died on the scene.
Detectives reported that he was crossing the roadway when a Hyundai Sonata struck him, according to the statement. The driver fled in an unknown direction, but detectives identified the vehicle using parts left on the road following the incident.
According to the statement, officers located the automobile and detained 21-year-old Keila Maldonado, the driver. On Sunday, Maldonado was being held at the Broward Main Jail on a $51,000 bond.
She is suspected of tampering with or manipulating physical evidence, as well as failing to stop and remain at the site of a fatal collision, according to the statement. She currently does not have an attorney listed.
