Landscaper taken into custody after ramming ex-employee’s vehicle at home in The Villages

A landscaper was taken into custody for reportedly slamming his pickup truck into an ex-employee’s car as the victim was conducting yard work at a house in The Villages.

Jacob Edward Douglas, 39, of Summerfield, was detained on Sunday afternoon following a violent incident at a residence in The Villages. The house address was omitted from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office arrest record.

Deputies responded to the incident about 1:53 p.m. The victim informed deputies that he was working at a customer’s home when his former boss, Douglas, arrived in a white Dodge Ram 3500. Douglas exited his truck, approached the victim aggressively, shouted profanities and threats, and pushed him.

Douglas then got back into the Dodge Ram, backed up, and drove quickly, utilising the truck’s front end to smash into the back of the victim’s red Kia Optima.

The victim, who said he was afraid for his life, told authorities that if he hadn’t moved out of the way, he would have been hit by the truck, an account supported by other independent witnesses on the scene. The Kia Optima sustained an estimated $10,000 in damage as a result of the incident.

Douglas was arrested on felony accusations of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief, as well as misdemeanour violence. He was booked into the Sumter County Detention Centre and released after paying an $8,500 bond.
