Florida Man Detained Just 11 Days After Prison Release

A 28-year-old man who was released from prison less than two weeks ago is back in custody after authorities say he caused a disturbance in a Martin County neighborhood.

Deputies detained Joseph Oswald after receiving a number of 911 calls from people on the 6000 block of Crooked Oak Avenue in Hobe Sound. Callers reported seeing an unidentified individual going through residential yards and yelling at residents.

Responding deputies found Oswald at the location and saw that he looked to be under the influence of an unknown substance. He was arrested shortly afterward.

According to records, Oswald was freed from prison just 11 days previously. He has a lengthy record in Martin County, including up to 14 past arrests for grand theft, burglary, and loitering and prowling.

Following the community complaints, Oswald was arrested on fresh charges of trespassing, loitering, and prowling.

Deputies commended neighbors with calling law authorities before the situation worsened.

“We commend the alert residents who quickly reported the suspicious activity,” the agency stated in a statement. “Their actions are a reminder that when residents see something suspicious and report it, they play an important role in keeping their neighborhoods safe.”
