A former teacher from Cottonwood is facing decades in prison after he pleaded guilty to multiple offenses involving children.
On October 26, Chester Cox, 31, pled guilty to sexual contact with a minor, child molestation, surreptitious photography, and multiple counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office discovered photographs and videos on Cox’s phone depicting pupils changing clothing and using the lavatory. Investigators also discovered a digital camera with tape and an antenna inside the defendant’s automobile, according to officials.
The inquiry reportedly included a complaint that Cox assaulted a kid “numerous times” between 2017 and 2020, according to the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office. That child wasn’t a pupil.
Cox, who had been teaching at an elementary school in Cottonwood for several years before his arrest, is anticipated to be sentenced to 50 years in prison when he appears in court on November 23. YCAO observed that Cox’s plea agreement states that he must serve the prison sentence “day for day.”
