A Florida man was arrested for making threats against a public official.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, assisted by the Boca Raton Police Department, arrested 25-year-old Luke David Schlauder of Boca Raton on one count of intimidation and threat to kill or cause bodily harm, as well as one count of using a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony.
FDLE Capitol Police informed FDLE Miami agents in October that a suspect, later identified as Schlauder, had left a voicemail with explicit death threats against a Florida state lawmaker. The inquiry indicated that Schlauder left voicemails on three separate occasions, containing violent threats and hateful racial slurs.
FDLE agents apprehended Luke Schlauder and took him to the Palm Beach County prison.
“Threats against public servants should concern all of us, regardless of political affiliation,” the Republican Party of Palm Beach County wrote. “Florida state Rep. Peggy Gossett-Seidman (District 91) says she feared for her life and her staff’s safety after allegedly receiving threatening voicemails at her office.”
Peggy Gossett-Seidman, a Florida State Representative, covers District 91, which includes Highland Beach and Boca Raton in South Florida. She posted the local Republican Party’s post on the incident.
“Whatever your party, you can disagree with an elected official, vote against them, and tell them why. Threatening violence is not part of this.” When people in public office or their staff are afraid for their safety, fewer good people will want to serve, and our entire community suffers,” the Republican Party of Palm Beach County stated. “If you have an issue with an elected official’s office, phone, write, attend a public meeting, and vote. And if you ever receive or witness a threat, notify the local police.”
The case is being prosecuted by the 15th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office. The inquiry is still ongoing, according to law enforcement.
