Over 160 arrests made in Gaslamp Quarter during SDPD operation

A two-month operation in the Gaslamp Quarter resulted in more than 160 arrests, including 21 crimes, according to a San Diego Police Department news release issued on Thursday.

Since August 28, Operation Last Call has resulted in about 168 arrests, 21 of which were felonies, 179 citations, and the recovery of four firearms, according to SDPD.

The operation was a high-profile police operation undertaken exclusively in the Gaslamp Quarter on Friday and Saturday nights to combat violent and illegal behavior.

The SDPD performed traffic enforcement, resulting in 39 citations and five DUI-related arrests, according to the announcement. “The Gaslamp Quarter is an integral part of San Diego’s nightlife and events,” the SDPD remarked. The increased illegal activity and pedestrian and vehicle congestion posed a public safety risk and harmed the experience for both residents and visitors.”

In addition to the police operation, the city of San Diego repainted street and sidewalk markers, increased the frequency of street cleaning, and established designated rideshare pickup zones outside of 5th Ave on weekends.

SDPD stated that the zero-tolerance policy will also be in full effect over Halloween weekend.
