A Chicago man has been sentenced to 75 years in prison for a murder committed in Rockford in 2021.
On December 15, 2021, Rockford police responded to the 500 block of South 2nd Street for a report of a shooting victim.
Officers came to find Robert Bingenheimer lying in a pool of blood in the foyer of an apartment. According to police, Bingenheimer died at the scene after being shot in the neck.
Investigators then discovered that Bingenheimer owed money to a drug dealer ultimately identified as Fulton.
Prosecutors said that security video released during the trial showed Fulton walking toward the apartment complex where Bingenheimer lived. Witnesses reported hearing an altercation over money, followed by a gunshot, before the defendant fled the scene.
Fulton was convicted in July and sentenced last week by Winnebago County Judge Debra Schafer.
