I Checked ALDI’s Beef to See Where It Comes From – Here’s What I Found

There has been a lot of chatter over the last couple of months about where the beef in our grocery stores comes from. How much can we really learn by reading the packages at the store? I’ve been visiting different grocery stores to see what a regular customer can find out at each one. I published an article about it: I Checked Walmart’s Beef to See Where It Comes From – Here’s What I Found

Today, we’re looking at ALDI. Could package reading alone tell me anything?

I wanted to see what I could find as just a regular customer at an ALDI store about where they are sourcing their beef from. Here is what you can expect to find or in this case, not find about where their beef comes from.

USDA Labels Don’t Mean the Beef Is Sourced from the U.S.

At ALDI, you’ll find beef labeled USDA Organic and USDA Choice. These labels tell you the beef earned a Choice grade or was certified as organically raised. But neither one guarantees the beef comes from the U.S. Beef can still earn its grade after it’s imported, and products from outside the United States can also earn an organic certification.

So when you see USDA labels like these, don’t draw any conclusions about origin. Just know that imported beef with an organic certification was raised under the same standards as beef raised organically in the U.S.

No “Product of U.S.A.” Labels on the Packaging

I couldn’t find a “Product of U.S.A.” label on any of the beef in ALDI stores. According to the USDA, a company can only use that label if the meat was “born, raised, harvested, and processed in the U.S.A.” as of January 1, 2026. A missing label doesn’t tell you for sure where the beef comes from, but it does raise some doubt that it’s from the U.S., since the label is a missed chance to market it that way. Some large beef packers may also source from multiple countries, including the U.S., so labeling each package may not be practical.

Every package of beef I found carried the U.S. Inspection logo. That logo only shows the meat was inspected in the U.S. It doesn’t indicate where the beef originated.

What to Look for to Find Product of U.S.A. Beef

Look for “Product of U.S.A.” on beef packages, or wording that says “born, raised, harvested, and processed in the U.S.A.” At ALDI, I couldn’t track down an origin for any of their beef from the packaging alone. But there are other types of meat at ALDI that are products of the U.S.A.

What U.S. Origin Meats Can You Find at ALDI?

So, if choosing U.S. raised meat is important to you, you don’t have to skip shopping at ALDI for meat, there are things you can buy. For example, in the photo above the pork belly says “Product of U.S.A.” on it.

I also found that their ground turkey say that as well, along with the Perdue ground chicken I found.

On the packages of raw chicken breasts, it said “hatched, raised, and harvested in the U.S.A.”.

How important is sourcing your meat just from the United States to you? Or does price and quality matter more?
