A 39-year-old man was detained and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, prompting a SWAT response on Wednesday.

According to court documents, police responded to a physical fight at a home on Oxley St. regarding a neighbor’s aggressive dog.

According to the arrest document acquired by KFOX14/CBS4, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered the victim, now identified as Elijah Sanchez, with injuries to his head and hands.

According to Sanchez, the incident began when he noticed his wife arguing with their neighbor, Mario Martinez, about Martinez’s vicious dog constantly escaping into Sanchez’s yard.

Sanchez claimed that he and Martinez began bickering, which escalated when Sanchez turned his back and was hit in the head, apparently with a rock.

Sanchez, dazed, claimed to have put Martinez in a headlock but was then cut on the hands, leading him to release Martinez. Sanchez reported seeing Martinez brandishing a knife with a red handle, according to the records.

Following the confrontation, Sanchez returned home to contact 911, but Martinez remained at home.

According to the arrest affidavit, a witness confirmed the occurrence while police attempted to reach Martinez.

Martinez apparently refused to leave his home and trapped himself inside.

The Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were dispatched to the scene.

After a brief confrontation, Martinez surrendered and was arrested without incident.

Martinez confirmed holding a knife, which he characterized as a box cutter with a red handle, but he denied stabbing Sanchez.

According to records, Martinez admitted to using a rock against Sanchez.
